What is Memory Care?

Memory Care is a type of care available within Assisted Living facilities that can help provide for those with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.  These types of homes can often be the hardest to navigate and determine which is the best fit for your family member as the level and type of services provided in each facility varies significantly depending on how they are impacted and what type of care they need.  Careful consideration also needs to be taken on what may be the best fit down the road as well.

What Are the Typical Services Available in Memory Care?

Each community typically offers all of the same services as found in Assisted Living.  In addition, some
may have extra features specific to Alzheimer’s / Dementia:

  • Specialty programming during the day
  • Social activities geared towards those with memory deficits
  • Secured unit for individuals prone to wandering
  • Walking paths
  • Room/community set-up with features designed specifically for those with Alzheimer’s/Dementia

A care needs assessment can help determine which communities may be the best fit for your loved one’s individual needs.
